Professor of English

@SUNY Plattsburgh

Every class I lead is a creative community. In addition to teaching literary modernism, film, and creative writing, I teach…. creativity. A former high school teacher, I’ve published and presented extensively on the power of humanities and a new, experiential pedagogy that distributes expertise across the classroom.

Art & Experience

“At the center of everything we call ‘the arts,’ and children call ‘play,’ is something which seems somehow alive.” — Lynda Barry

Essays, films, poems… I am seriously proud of how my students playfully make things.

Seriously playful: that’s my teaching philosophy.

Pop for the Community

I believe in the power of the humanities to serve the public good. Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, I’ve designed many large-scale events, exhibits, and gatherings for the students and community of SUNY Plattsburgh, including The Lake Champlain International Film Festival, Pop for the People (Plattsburgh State Art Museum), and the ongoing viewpoints: Human (flow) project.
